My identity, my positionality, my experiences inform the way I see the world around me; my camera is both empowered and limited by my own vision. I see myself as an observer, yes, a documentarian, but crucially not as one removed or neutral. I am wracked with biases which I make no effort to conceal; the power of the artist for me is the power to be a researcher not bound by any requirement to maintain some falsehood of neutrality. In the camera and the image I am free to investigate, to research, to interrogate with full use of all my senses, with knowledge but without fear of how they may deceive me.
